Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Kithunu Mithura (Blog by True God) does and doesn't do with your data. It applies to the Android app and this website.
Purpose of this app
Kithunu Mithura is a free, non‑commercial Bible app, originally built for a friend and shared for anyone's educational and personal use. It contains no advertising and no in‑app purchases, and there is no intention to earn money from it.
Bible text sources
The app bundles the complete Sinhala Bible (Old Version / OV 1938) and the complete English Bible (King James Version, 1611). Both editions are old enough to be in the public domain, and both are stored on your device so the app works fully offline.
Information we collect
Kithunu Mithura does not require an account, and it does not collect your name, email address, or location. Nothing you do inside the app — reading, highlighting, bookmarking, or writing notes — is sent to a server.
- Notebook entries, highlights, and bookmarks — stored only in local storage on your device. They are never uploaded, synced, or shared automatically.
- Reading position, theme, and font settings — stored locally so the app remembers your preferences between sessions.
- Text‑to‑Speech — audio is generated by Android's on‑device speech engine. No text is sent off the device to produce speech.
- Crash or diagnostic data — if the app uses Google Play's standard crash‑reporting service, this may include basic device information (device model, Android version) but never your notes, highlights, or reading content. This is used only to fix bugs, never for advertising.
Permissions the app requests
- Notifications — used only for the daily promise verse (morning and evening) and reading reminders. You can disable this anytime in Android's notification settings for the app.
- Home screen widget — Android's widget system, used to display the daily verse. Adding the widget is entirely optional.
- Background audio playback (foreground service) — this app provides Bible listening via Text‑to‑Speech. Users can start audio playback of chapters or selected verses, turn off the screen, or switch to other apps while the audio continues. A foreground service keeps playback uninterrupted and shows playback controls in the notification shade. The
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACKpermission is required to keep audio running in the background, similar to music or podcast apps. - Storage — used to save your notebook, highlights, bookmarks, and app settings locally on your device.
The app does not request access to your contacts, camera, microphone, or precise location, and does not need any of them to function.
Sharing verses
The "share verse" feature hands text to your device's normal share sheet (for example, to send a verse by message or email). This uses Android's built‑in sharing system — the app itself does not send verse content to any server of its own.
Third parties
The app does not include third‑party advertising SDKs. If this changes in a future update, this policy will be updated first, and the change will be reflected in the app's Google Play listing.
Children's privacy
Kithunu Mithura is a general‑audience app and does not knowingly collect personal information from children, since no personal information is collected from any user.
Data retention and deletion
Since notes, highlights, bookmarks, and settings are stored only on your device, uninstalling the app removes this data. There is no server‑side account or backup to delete separately.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as the app changes, for example when new languages or features are added. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
